Other than exQuilla, is there anyway to get Thunderbird to talk to MS Exchange server? Syncing contacts and calendars would be great, but mail is important.

Thunderbird supports standard mail protocols POP, IMAP, and SMTP. Find out if the Exchange server has enabled them. If so, get the required server settings, and set up the account manually. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/manual-account-configuration
