Hello all !

First time in bugzilla thanks to the stability of firefox.

But this time I have experienced an issue. I received my new phone AMG X2 with nougat and installed app from f-droid and everytinhg is ok. But each time i try to install apk from ftp (52.5 57 58 59) or through f-droid (fennec and icecat) firefox crashs less than 20 seconds after it run (we are sorry, firefox encounter...). The install process works well but android doesn’t asking about permissions and I don’t know if it’s normal. Surprisingly, firefox klar works well from f-droid. I didn’t try to install FF from aptoïde since it’s not a app from mozilla.

It’s very annoying since I used FF with sync of course…

Any ideas ?

It seems that i didn't post in the right section : it's not a FF for IOS but firefox for android. Anyone can move the post ?

Thanks.

Hi

Thank you for your question.

Have you set Android to allow applications to be installed from third parties?

In the Settings application of Android, under Security, there should be the option to allow installation from Unknown sources.

As a sideloader myself, I am interested in working with you to help resolve this one.

Hi Seburos,

And thanks for your reply.

I have allowed third parties app from security - unknown sources otherwise i couldn't have done all installations i guess. The issue don't come from the installation process but just after, as soon as i run the app. Just less than 20 seconds to crash with every download apk from ftp or f-droid.

For informations : Smartphone : AMG X2 with android 7.1.2 and without google play Desktop computer : Debian 9

Hi

Wow, thanks for the information. Can you try a little experiment for me?

Please can you try a straight sideload of the FIrefox for Android Beta from here? (no ftp, just a straight download and install of the .apk).

Please let me know what happens.

I have downloaded and installed the fennec-58.0b15.multi.android-arm.apk It crashs like others after 16 seconds.

This almost 16 seconds countdown is actually highly remarkable I guess.

Hi

Thanks for that.

Can you also try the same straight sideload of another app (VLC):

https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-android.html

The .apk are available from a link under the Google and Amazon buttons.

Ok, thanks.

I have contacted the developers and discussed your issue with them. It looks like this is a known device specific issue that is being worked on. With so many different Android devices available, sometimes an issue arises that we would have struggled to have foreseen, but that we hope we can fix swiftly. You can track the details and progress of this work here.

I am sorry that I have been unable to rectify the issue that you are having and would urge you to continue to keep an eye on that bug report for progress and a fix.

OK thanks for all. I would have been very disappointed if I didn't know the bug was tracked. I have already send several times the crash report and with your link i could check that. Hope that a lot of people did the same.
