I am trying out Thunderbird (had been using SeaMonkey. Presently, I click on links within my email and nothing happens, no browser is launched. I have configured through Options / attachments to launch all email links in Firefox.

Any suggestions?

yeah, stick with your existing thread. Others will chime in if they have ideas. We are really pretty informal most of the time.
