Why do I need a browser like Bing to run with Firefox?
Must I have a seperate browser to run alongside Firefox. May be a naive question, so apologies to experts. This follows on from the Microsoft Edge-Bing-Firesoft discussion. When first setting up FF there is provision to choose browser (Bing, dudck duck etc); is any of these essential or will just Firefox do the trick?

Firefox has some built-in protections. You can get more by
Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad blocker.

That is misinformation. Bing, along with many others, is a search engine and a web site. They are not browsers but use browsers to display themselves.
You can choose your default search engine as well as the default page that is displaied at startup (home page).

Type about:preferences#search<enter> in the address bar. You can select any search engine to be your default from here.
You can also remove any engine from here.

I think that you are getting search engines confused with web browsers.
A search engine is just a website that you visit. A web browser is the program that you use to visit the website. In this case, Firefox is the browser and Bing (for example) is the search engine.
It sounds like you are just being asked to pick which search engine you want to use. This is just telling Firefox what website it should use to search when you type in the search bar.
See how you can set the default and add/remove search engines in Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-your-default-search-settings-firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-or-remove-search-engine-firefox
As said Bing and DuckDuckGo are Search Engines of their own like how you may be familiar with Google as a search engine.
Firefox and Edge and IE are web browsers.
Thanks folks. Your concensus still leaves me in the puzzled zone. I am very much into Firefox & Mozilla because of the abuse, adverts and unwanted control that some folks data has been subject to on other major sites. But, am I not in the same trap if I use Firefox, then have to use Bing or Google etc as browser & search engine. Are all the carefully set Firefox traps for ads, things that trail my actions and try to break in (I do use good double passw system) made useless when then pass through Bing etc? I do apologise If I appear a pain, I was OK at pcs 'till dementia caught me, now logic existence with its understanding is transitory. Thanks in anticipation
