Today morning my portable Thunderbird installed the update 78.5.1. After restart, all my emails were gone. Under Tools|Account Settings, the accounts still are there, but in the main window nothing is displayed at all.

In the file system, the data folder has a size of approx. 16GB. How to get back the emails?

If you are using ESET/NOD32 security/AV then probability is high that ESET is causing your problems. According to ESET forums, you should temporarily disable SSL on ESET until they solve the problem per https://support.eset.com/en/kb3126-disable-ssl-filtering-in-eset-windows-products.

You might also inform ESET that they have broken your system. The problem is being reported by hundreds of users https://forum.eset.com/topic/26517-problems-with-thunderbird-and-imaps/ https://forum.eset.com/discover/

I'm just using Win10 with the default/built-in virus protection, no third-party tool.

I could get access to the emails again after copying the Thunderbird portable 78.5.0 from a different computer.

Is there any developer who can help me to investigate what the problem with 78.5.1 is? Is there a log file - maybe there is an exception logged in 78.5.1 that prevents reading the files?
