Other apps were opened instead of Firefox when clicking it from "Share via"

When I clicked Firefox from the “Share via” apps list, it just goes to random apps. It’s rare that this happens but it’s kind of frustrating.

This also happened to Fennec F-Droid, which is a Firefox-based browser and others like Mull, Iceraven etc.

I screen captured the error to make it more clear: https://streamja.com/49ldz

Hi

Would it be possible to record that video in such a way that it is a bit smaller and to show the full process? I am struggling see the full Firefox for Android screen in that video.

As you can see in the video, I clicked Firefox but it redirected to bluetooth prompt.

Okay, thank you.

Which app are you trying to share from?

Does the same thing happen in Firefox for Android Beta?

Sorry for replying late. I was trying to record the bug in Firefox Beta. I finally got to capture it: https://streamable.com/ykbzpe

I clicked Firefox Beta then it just copied to clipboard.

I am sorry but I am unable to open that link.

Which app are you trying to share from? This may be an issue for their support team.

My bad. Here is the link: https://streamable.com/6pbxoq

The app is Lost Vault / com.vaultomb.

It can't be on their side because I also tried to share an image from Firefox to Reddit and it redirected me to my file manager: https://streamable.com/5fcl0a

Okay I managed to capture the bug from Beta again: https://streamable.com/5fcl0a

When I was sharing an image to Reddit, it was redirected to a video editor. It's so random so you can see it still works most of the time.

Hi Mark

I slowed down that video and from what I can see:

  1. You are looking at a page in Firefox for Android (private browsing mode)
  2. You share it with an app called "Boost" to create a post
  3. You discard that before completing the process to create a post
  4. You then view the image and share it with "Boost" to create a post and different app starts to load.

What happens when you try to share with your email app? Is it random each time?

I tried sharing it with GMail and it redirected to the file manager.

Hi Mark

I have checked with our developers who have explained that it could be the other app (not Firefox for Android) not correctly registering an intent with Android that it can handle whatever the user is sharing.

Looks like it. I also saw this: https://www.reddit.com/r/android_beta/comments/izodkn/android_11_share_sheet_sends_you_to_the_wrong_app/

The post is a year old... so it's a miracle if they'll even try to fix the issue specially when A12 is on the table for while now.

Looks like I have to downgrade to A10.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem at all - glad you asked.

I am using Android 12 on my device and I have found sharing to other apps (mainly Pocket, but one or two others) to be okay. It may not be Android, but may be the apps that you are sharing to.
