On starting Firefox, I get the message 'Firefox is already running', which it is not.

On starting Firefox, I get the message 'Firefox is already running', which it is not. I have tried uninstalling and re-installation but always with the same result. What is the solution please? This started yesterday afternoon (UK 04Feb2023. Version 109.0.1, first offered to Release channel users on January 31, 20234Feb23)
