Dear Mozilla:

It is SAD that the OS I have will no longer be supported due to exploits.

Considering the # of exploits, backdoors, poor coding, etc., in the later Windows OS versions - 1 would truly think that supporting the older and MUCH more secure Windows OS's would be wise.

Yes, they have "holes", but overall much fewer than current OS's.

Plus, the bad actors are very busy exploiting 10 & 11 and pretty much have ignored the prior versions.

Question... what if a major exploit is found that affects all OS's from 11 down to unsupported?

Will Mozilla make sure to supply a patch to the unsupported due to the danger of the new & serious "hole" found?

I vote... it would be wise to maintain a small contingency of legacy developers to help those who cannot buy new systems or flat out HATE the UI & UX of the 10 & 11.

Makes sense?

Are you saying that there should be a future update to the Extended Support Release of Firefox 115 if the final release in the serious is discovered to have a severe security vulnerability? I don't know whether that is a possibility. With previous ESR releases (52 for XP, 78 for older MacOS), the end of support really was the end of support. But perhaps there could be a situation so extreme that action was required. Who knows.

But if your question is about Windows, that is for Microsoft and security consultants to address, not Mozilla.

Mozilla is already supporting the EOL Windows 7, 8, 8.1 for a good while since (till Sept 2024) when other major browsers already stopped supporting back in Jan/Feb 2023.

Browsers like Chromium, Chrome and Opera dropped support of the old EOL WinXP and Vista back in April 2016 while Firefox 52.9.0esr (Released June 26, 2018, over two years later) was the last version to still support the old EOL WinXP and Vista.

Maybe dual booting with a Linux distro can be an idea as you can then use the current Firefox versions for a long while longer on the old hardware. There are desktops and themes can can be used to look much like Windows if you prefer.
