When I close Firefox, it doesn't actually close, when I try to re-open. It says Firefix already open or active, but I have no access. Whats the problem?

If I log out of, (shut down Firefox), when I try to open it again, I get a message that Firefox is already running, and I can't get access, I have to log off my system and log back in before I can access Firefox.

Do you have any idea why this happens, and how I might fix it.
