AVG Error Code says General Internal Error for trying to remove AVG 2011 from my computer

I am trying to remove AVG 2011 anti-virus program from my computer and keep receiving the Error code OXCOO706-43 general internal error. I have tried reinstalling then asking to remove but never get any further than this message popping up. Meanwhile it continually asks for me to shut down my computer for information to be loaded. When I do a few minutes later the pop-up appears asking me to restart my computer again. The version of AVG is 10.0.1153 Any suggestions on how to get this fixed is appreciated.
