When i web search, i get a list of related topics, when i click on a topic, i'm taken to an advertising site not related....the only way i can manuever to a website is to type it in myself...

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
