Edit Bookmarks - very slow response - why???
When I add new OR edit bookmarks --no matter from where in firefox
e.g.
--- 1 from Add bookmark -- , click add new folder, or change a folder name, then add the bookmark
--- 2 from Addbookmark -- scroll up to the folder I want to insert the bookmark for
--- 3 from bookmark SIDEBAR - cmd B - drag and drop a bookmark
--- 4 from Show all bookmarks -- drag and drop
there is such a delay like 5-50sec, that I think Firefox has not done what I requested, so I re-key and then it all gets messed up.
this has been long standing issue. no improvement since upgrade Firefox 11
any ideas????

Hi,
Please check if this happens in Safe Mode.
Troubleshooting Extensions and Themes
Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. Options > Advanced. All these settings/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme or hardware acceleration is causing issues.
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:
I have had this same problem with the last many versions of FF (I'm now on 15.0.1).
Happens to me when I go Ctrl-D to add a bookmark, and then try to find the right folder for that bookmark, so I type in the first letter.
And wait...and wait...
With a quad-core processor and 64-bit machine, I somehow don't think the problem is in the hardware. For a program to do something as extraordinary as "search for the first letter of a folder", well, that takes some SERIOUS codework.
Any luck finding the culprit?
Did you check for problems with the places.sqlite database file?
You can also try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
