I found two folders listed above the: places.sqlite as well as bookmarkbackups. I backed up both folders. When I clicked on the places.sqlite nothing happened. Windows did not understand this folder. I am not sure all my book marks are in this folder as mentioned in the instructions above. I also clicked on the bookmarkbackup folder and saw a folder with the date Oct 15 as athe more recent back up. With Windows explorer, when I click on My favorites, I can see all the individual folders not with these FIREFOX book marks... How do I know if all the bookmarks for the internet links are in these folder? or do have I backed up the wrong folder?

Places.sqlite is not a folder, but an SQLite database file.
You can copy that file to a Firefox Profile Folder to restore the bookmarks and the history.

The bookmarkbackups folder stores a daily JSON backup that can be used to restore (replace) all bookmarks in case of problems with the places.sqlite file.
