After updating to FF 20, the Google.com homepage is missing the black menu bar at the top (listing news, gmail, etc.). No problem in Safari, the bar is there. Missing only in FF.

Google has been experimenting with removing the bar for Chrome users, but it shouldn't be removed for Firefox users.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove your google.com cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Here you can remove your Google cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I did all that and it didn't solve the problem.

Eventually, I restarted my computer. Did all those things a few more times. Eventually, the menu bar reappeared. Still not certain anything I did solved the problem.
