I don't keep my bookmarks on the screen. What happens when you use Ctrl+B or View:Sidebar:Bookmarks? I know it doesn't just "disappear" as some quick testing worked fine for me. Can you please post your version of Firefox and specify when you lose the Bookmarks Sidebar?
