Undo sync

Help! I was trying out sync, and I thought that clicking "sync" would bring up a menu or dialog box of some type, but it just went ahead and synced the data from the wrong computer. I lost years of bookmarks for work. How can I undo the sync and get all my bookmarks back? I saw another thread where a user had been able to do this by disconnecting the computer from sync. I tried this, but the bookmarks are still missing.

Well, there was only one backup of the bookmarks, but fortunately, it was before the erroneous sync. Thanks for your help!
