Firefox 30.0 ignores PAC file and manual setting for pac file does not work

I am in the process of getting a SPDY proxy to work with Firefox (version 30.0) on windows 7. Firefox somehow ignores the PAC file configured in the auto-configuration URL settings inside Firefox and downloads pages directly (the PAC file however is set to use the proxy always). Hence I tried giving the proxy's IP address and port number in the manual proxy configuration setting (both HTTP and SSL) in Firefox. This does not seem to help either. The connection times out. To rule out issues with the SPDY proxy, I used a normal Squid HTTP proxy (which works with Chrome), and even with this the manual settings does not work.

Highly appreciate any timely help with this.
