Firefox crashes
constant crashes, just started recently. I have up to date virus and malware protection. My display driver crashes then recovers and the Firefox crashes. no others crash. IE and Chrome never have an issue. I have been sending crash reports for the last couple of days. Firefox is my default browser and I like it that way. I have lots of active windows I don;t want to lose is separate browsing sessions I use daily.

Hi mpvance, Please type in about:crashes into the location bar, hit the [Enter] Key and let us have the Crash IDs you find, the two or three latest ones should do. Note it is just the text we need and starts with bp- Paste that into your reply. The forum software converts that to a link AFTER you post it.
Please continue submitting Crash reports, especially for new issues, but note to get help we need to see them just submitting them for processing will not get you assistance.
See Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)
We should be able to offer advice once we see the Crash IDs.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

I have not got time to start reading up fully on the related bugs. This is graphics related bug as you will already have discovered. Graphics driver updates fix some of the crashes, and pre release patches fix or partially fix some of the problems.
It is well worth updating or even downgrading your graphics drivers by rolling them back, it may solve the issue.
Please say what you try and how you geton.
If that does not work then there are two possible workarounds that should get you a working Firefox browser. Cloning profiles or copying over sessionstore files to transfer open session tabs can be done.
Install Firefox portable ESR as an additional browser. That is currently based on Fx31 but with major Security fixes back ported. It is an unofficial third party Build and intended for Enterprise use. This issue only seems to affect versions after Fx36.
The other alternative is to try Fx 40 the Developer channel Release. The require patches seem to have made it into this version. That particular channel of builds now by default installs as an additional browser with its own Firefox profile.

I tried the suggestions in reducing memory but only had one plugin that I needed to disable and Firefox has failed constantly since as well and still is. I keep many windows open and have form many months. these crashes have just started happening in the last week or so. If this keeps up I'll have to switch to chrome because it nor IE have this issue.
Looking at your Crash Signature the portable ESR and the developer editions do not have this issue. Some alternative graphics drivers may also possibly solve the issue.
That allows you to keep any open tabs. You lose those if you use IE or Chrome.
I dropped more than 2/3rds of my open tabs/windows. My graphics driver is up to date with all acceleration turned on and Firefox is still crashing every 10 minutes or so.
Please post all crash reports for the last few days Only.
This is just the last 2 days

Can you install Firefox nightly? https://nightly.mozilla.org/ just as a test to see if this resolves the crash
Note that you should do a custom install of each version like a Nightly build in a different program folder.
Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile for that version, so make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished.
See:
Yes, Nightly install is not the easiest thing for an end user like mpvance to try.
I suggested testing first of all with Developer or portable ESR. Not as useful for investigating the bug, and getting a proper solution, but easier options that may get a relatively stable and safe working alternative browser whilst we try assist in sorting it out properly.
Is there any chance that these fixes will get into the user version anytime soon? This is a constant issue. Lately it hangs and has to be killed to recover if it doesn't crash altogether.

If there is a fix in current nightly, it will land in Firefox 41, which comes out in a few months. I'd suggest you try testing with nightly (It's not as hard as john makes it seem, and testing with developer edition won't work as the fixes aren't all there anyway) and see if it makes things better.
OK,i'll give nightly a try. However, I have a couple few questions. Do I have to uninstall my current Firefox? If a particular nightly works, do I have to re-install every night?
That is why it is more difficult with Nightly. Portable ESR is a totally separate program and install not interfering with the current Release. Developer is by default installed separately and with its own profile. Deveolper does not need the user to manaully take the same extra steps as recommended for a Nightly install.
Most; or all of us; answering here will be familiar with how to manually install multiple versions of Firefox, and use multiple profiles. We do it routinely with hardly a thought and probably do not even bother to use the built in profile manager.
Do I have to uninstall my current Firefox?
- No
- In fact I would strongly recommend you keep the current Release install and its profile.
- BUT you need to use the custom install option See #743479 when installing Nightly or it will install over the top of the Release and replace it.
- AND unless you also follow cor-rel's advice on profiles it will try to use the existing profile, which may not be desirable.
If a particular nightly works, do I have to re-install every night?
You do not need to, but you may have problem stopping it from doing so ! Remember however this was suggested and intended as a test and not as a permanent working solution.
I just got the current nightly installed and as soon as the display driver restarted it hung with only the whirligig in the center. had to kill it to restart.
No better, maybe worse. Google recovers and keeps on going. I prefer Firefox but this is killing me.
