Hi

Yes, Thunderbird is designed to do just that. I recommend that you follow this walkthrough that will help you to set up the email account in Thunderbird.

If you have to set up the account manually, you may need the Verizon server settings. I have looked into this and have found them listed here. (There is also the option to chat to a Verizon helpdesk person if you need a hand.)
