searches NOW open in new tab? Just want search to filter emails instead?

more options

Around a month ago when I would use the top right search box, the emails in the current window would filter based on this query. NOW, when I hit 'enter' a new tab opens with hardly-usable search results. I was using Thunderbird 38.5.1 and in an attempt to fix this issue, I today upgraded to 38.6.0 (this did not fix the problem).

I want it so when I type into the search box it automatically filters the emails in the current view. In December for sure this was working the way I want it to.

Chosen solution

I think you're describing the QuickFilter bar, which normally appears just below the Global Search window. There should be a toolbar button to toggle it on and off, or it will appear in the list of toolbars under View|Toolbars in the main menu.

Another useful search/filter is available through ctrl+shift+f.
