Hi everyone! I used thunderbird to archive emails before closing an account 2 years ago and use it only as an archive. Now my hard drive is dying and I want to move this archive to a usb using thunderbird portable. I've installed portable, but can't figure out how to move the archived emails to the usb drive (I also just got the windows 10 upgrade). Not terribly computer literate either. Please help!

Then you either didn't copy the existing profile to the correct location on the thumb drive or you didn't follow the instructions, or both.

Thunderbird portable isn't supported in this forum, so you'd need to ask for the correct profile location in a forum for portable apps.

Wrt the instructions, please describe in detail the steps you did including full path names.

Backup the existing Thunderbird profile. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_backing-up-a-profile

Then restore the backed up profile to your thump drive for use with Thunderbird portable. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_restoring-to-a-different-location

Thanks for this Christ1, unfortunately it didn't work for me. When I copy over the xxxxxxxx.default file to thunderbird portable, TBP asks me to set up the email addresses using the internet server upon boot and does not automatically load my emails. I haven't had these emails for over 2 years and they are defunct. I don't know how to change this to access my emails. Any ideas?
