Try to start Thunderbird in safe mode. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

No change.

Also looking in the error console I get: Timestamp: 6/6/16, 2:31:34 PM Error: TypeError: view.selection is null Source File: chrome://global/content/bindings/tree.xml Line: 1129

This is not the only error in the error console.
