Where can I go to get detailed information to explain the various options available in about:config? If this is not available, why not? Firefox is supposed to be an open platform - why not publish the available setting options for the user community?

In addition, are there 'hidden' settings buried in the installation process and/or directories that are available to be configured? Where might I find detailed information/explanation of these 'hidden' settings, if they exist?
