Two days ago, my Google calendar tab disappeared in Thunderbird and I don't know if it is possible to get it back. I manage all events and appointments from Thunderbird so am really missing it. How can I get it back.

Chosen solution

If you have changed the preference, install the GC Tab add-on by right-clicking the Download Now button, Save Link As..., downloading the xpi installer, and installing it from Tools/Add-ons/Extensions by clicking the gear icon next to the search box, Install Add-on From File..., select the xpi file.

The Lightning Calendar add-on for TB 60 isn't available as a separate download, but if you can't see it in TB 60, there is a way to recover it.

I would first get Lightning enabled, then install the GC Tab add-on. If you had a Google calendar already set up, it should appear as before.

Thank you for replying.

I followed the instructions re Lightening and checked the Add-ons only to find the problem is that the Google calendar tab is incompatible with version 60.3.2 of Thunderbird. This version was installed on 30 Nov 2018. Until then the calendar has worked seamlessly with Thunderbird.

Is this a temporary problem or is it the end of Google calendar in Thunderbird.

I managed to install Google Calendar Tab in TB 60.3.2, but I don't have a Google calendar to test if it actually works. But if you do have one, open Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor and double-click the preference extensions.strictCompatibility to false, OK to close Options. That will remove the error in your picture.

A comment on the add-on page suggests another option, G-Hub Lite.

Thank you for answering.

The error message is now gone and so is the Google Calendar Tab Add-on. I have installed the G-Hub lite Add-on but am unable to add the Google Calendar Tab as it's not available to add to Thunderbird any longer. The same applies to the Lightening Add-on.

Perhaps the next version of Thunderbird will sort this out.

There is no Download Now button. That's because Thunderbird does not want me to download it as it's no longer compatible. That applies to Google Calendar tab and Lightening.

If there was a Download button, you lost me from this "Save Link As..., downloading the xpi installer, and installing it from Tools/Add-ons/Extensions by clicking the gear icon next to the search box, Install Add-on From File..., select the xpi file"

I had my GC connected to Thunderbird for several years and it was so easy to manage it. This latest version of TB has changed all that. I'm now accepting that it wont work again unless there is an update that is again compatible.

Thank you for trying to help.

Do you see the Download Now button in the attached picture of the GC Tab website? Right-click the button, Save Link As...

I have been able to download and install GC tab from file but was unable to install Lightening using the same method because it is not compatible. I thought computers were supposed to be logical!

As I was able to install the GC tab, I enabled G-Hub Lite. The calendar Tab appeared but when I click ) left or right) nothing happens. When I hover over it it says 'open Google Calendar in a Thunderbird tab'.

Your picture doesn't show the Lightning add-on. Did you follow the steps mentioned above to get it enabled?

I downloaded it and saved it. Then clicked install add-ons from file, selected Lightning from saved and instead of installing it, I had a red message at the top of the screen. See attached.

I thought G-Hub lite worked instead of Lightening.

The GC tab is showing in Thunderbird but it does not work. Is there a missing link or an incorrect link somewhere I wonder.

You can't download Lightning for TB 60. You have to recover it by following these instructions.

I carried out the instructions to the letter including closing and opening Thunderbird and nothing changed. I closed it again and went back to TV. I then opened it to check my emails and the GC calendar and task tabs were there.

The calendar is a completely different format to the one I have been using and none of my appointments are showing. I wonder if it's a US format. My calendar is easy to customise and understand. Also the task tab was not shown in Thunderbird before this problem started. I only used the calendar.

Thank you for your patience in helping me sort this out. I don't know if you should spend any more time on it as the next Thunderbird update may undo it all again. I can pin the Google Calendar tab in Chrome & use it from there.

Note: Tasks are included in my calendar. You can switch them on and off.

I'm marking this as solved because Google Calendar is installed again although it is not in the style of my calendar and does not have my data. I'm sure it will work just fine for someone using this style or starting from scratch.
