How do I set the default font preference, so that font will be automatic when I compose a new e-mail?

Setting the "Default font" in Options - Display - Formatting makes no difference - I always get "variable width" when composing new e-mails, and they look fine when I'm composing the, but when sent they end up in some simplified printer text font that looks awful. Am I missing something? How can I set the font I choose to be the one it automatically uses (default) for composing a new e-mail?

Options/Display/Formatting and the Advanced section set the fonts that are displayed on your system. Options/Composition/General sets the default for the fonts embedded in sent messages, and it's recommended to keep default values, for the widest compatibility with recipients' settings.

If mail looks 'awful' at the recipient's end, when you've applied default settings at your end, I think the recipient has to change their display settings. If they are TB users, they would check the Advanced section of Options/Display.

If the display of messages in your Sent folder is unsatisfactory, click the Advanced button in Options/Display and set the fonts and sizes for Fonts for:Latin and also for Fonts for: Other Writing Systems.
