How do I merge my old address book in my old computer into a newly created address book in my new computer without losing new entries?

Didn't know how to transfer address book into newly purchased computer, and therefore began address book from scratch. Now I see I was supposed to copy the profile. But now trying to do so requests that I paste the old thunderbird file in roaming into my new computer, and in doing so replace/delete the now new existing one - and therein my new address book entries.  ???

Create a new address book in Address Book from File/New... (press Alt if the Menu Bar with File is hidden), then select all the contacts in Personal Address Book (Ctrl+A) and drag them onto the new address book icon and drop them. Just for safety, export the new address book to an LDIF file. If you then copy abook.mab from the old profile (or copy the entire profile over the existing one), the old abook.mab will overwrite the current one. But the contacts in the current PAB are already in the new address book, so you have all the new and old contacts.
