Suddenly today (June 7) when Thunderbird tries to download gmail emails, I get a message saying "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.googlemail.com responded: Username and password not accepted." I have double checked that the username and password are correct (and I can access gmail on the web with those credentials.) I am using POP3 and have not had any problems before today.

As a way of seeing where the problem was, I went to account setup and tried to set up a gmail account (only put in the gmail address, no password.) When I click on "continue" it says "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account."

Thanks

Are you using OAUTH2 security? It sounds like you're not. If I'm right, I suggest updating your account setting to use OAUTH and remove your current password and then connect. Google will prompt you to allow access.
