When I delete, I want to go up, not down!
I like to read my messages from old to new. So when I delete a message, I want the next most recent one to be highlighted, not the next oldest one. At the moment, every time I delete a message, I have to then click on the message above the one it defaults to. It's a pain. Can I reverse the flow and make it move to the more recent message rather than the older one?

Toggle mail.delete_matches_sort_order to true in Settings/General/Config. editor and see if it achieves the effect you're looking for.
Genius! Thank you, it works perfectly.

I am a consistent user of having message sorted from oldest (at the top) to newest (at the bottom). I am not seeing what you are reporting. However, if you have sorted newest to oldest, then deleting a message does move next to an older message, not newer.

Unfortunately, you misunderstood my query. I have newest at the top, as that is what I am used to with Mac Mail; but when I delete a message, the highlight moves down to the next oldest one. I want it to move up to the next newest one.
