I cannot view PDFs with Firefox 3.6.3. I discovered (I think) that the Firefox PDF plugin extension is required, followed a link from mozilla, but the page is unavailable now. How can I view PDFs??

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

== I upgraded to 3.6.3

Hello Sara.

I trust this support article is what you need:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Opening+PDF+files+within+Firefox

And this one too (linked in the article I linked to above):

Thank you so much for the quick reply. Unfortunately these links lead to a page that says "Repairs in Progress" so I am still unable to download the plugin. Any other suggestions?

You should be able to get Adobe reader from here:

http://get.adobe.com/reader/

If this page is giving you trouble, contact Adobe for support. Or you can try an alternative to Adobe Reader. I recommend Foxit Reader:

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/

It's lighter, faster and has all the functionality. It's also free. Use whatever software you feel more comfortable with.

Hi Morbus,

Thanks for all of your help, but I am still really struggling. Foxit sounds great but as far as I can tell is only for windows and I have a mac. The trouble with using the adobe website is that they do not have a plugin for firefox. I got as far as this and do not know how to proceed http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/dlm/firefox_steps.html

The instructions start by referencing a yellow bar which I do not currently have. I have searched through everything on the toolbar and cannot find a way to allowed sites. I searched the web but all the instructions seem to start when a person sees this yellow bar, which obviously I do not.

Would you have any other suggestions? I cannot be the only person this is happening to. Sorry to keep bothering you but I really need to open several pdfs today.

Thanks!

Yeah, installing Adobe software is a total pain in the ass, I know, but if you are having troubles, you really need to contact Adobe, sorry.

It's me again. Actually I was able to install this reader once I realized I have a PowerPC processor. http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/

However, when I attempt to open a pdf I am directed to choose an application to open it with- I select this pdf reader- and nothing happens. Should I try to contact schubert?

Thanks, Sara

Have you check this support article?

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Opening+PDF+files+within+Firefox

It says how to configure Firefox to open PDF files inside Firefox (using the plugin).

Yes that's the page that sent me to the Schubert site. I downloaded and installed their pdf reader but nothing happens when I download a pdf now. I honestly cannot believe this is so difficult. I will have to go into a store and ask for help I think. Thanks for trying to help me.

You're welcome. I'm sorry I can't be of further assistance.
