Every link i clicked any link which would normally open a page I was redirected to my downloads and Firefox dowloaded a file which was useless and not able to be accessed, prbably because i wasnt trying to download anything, rather i was trying to open a web page. Seems to have stopped diong it for now but it was doing this for anything i clicked . Didnt restart or anything just tried it again and now the clicks seem to be working fine again. Also not sure if its related but Firefox continues to shut down unexpectedly with no explanation.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
