Speed Dial is replaced by another program instead of the program opening in a new tab. How to resolve?
I have been using Speed Dial for a long time and when I click on a button, usually a new page opens, leaving Speed Dial available. Recently, every time I click on a Speed Dial button, the new page opens in place of Speed Dial. If I want Speed Dial again, I have to back up page by page or restart Firefox. This has only happened recently and is very annoying. Any help will be appreciated. thanks.
Also finally remembered that instead of clicking on the speed dial icon, I can right click on it and click on "new tab". That way it will come up in a new window. This is not the way it always worked. Wonder why the change?

Thank you. I did right click on the box and it gave me the option of opening the site in a new tab. Nothing about always opening inn a new tab. Hope I will remember to always right click going forward. Thanks for your help.

What does the new page look like? By default, Firefox shows 9 thumbnails of recently/frequently visited pages. Is that the one you see? Your Speed Dial extension should be able to override that....
Sorry, I misunderstood. The problem is that instead of opening a new tab (or new window), your Speed Dial button is using the current tab (or current window)?

Which Speed Dial extension are you using (many have similar names)? It might have a setting in its options for whether to always open a new tab (or new window) when you click one of the listed sites.

Note that you can also middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.
Not sure I understand. My mouse does not have a middle button and I assume that's what you are referring to. At least I am getting myself in the habit of right-clicking. Thanks for your reply.
If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel then you can usually click that button to get a middle click.
If you still have a mouse with only two buttons then you can consider to buy a new mouse with a scroll wheel as that makes scrolling a lot easier and also make use of Firefox features regarding a middle click.
Most mouse drivers also allow to emulate such a middle click by pressing both mouse buttons at the same time.
