Can I make full screen on OSX not go to another "desktop"?

When viewing videos from YouTube and other sites, if I click the viewer's full screen icon (not Firefox's full screen arrows in the upper-right corner), the video goes full screen but it does so on another OSX "desktop", which takes about 3.5s to do the zoom and slide, during which the video is paused. I know it doesn't sound like a long time, but it is frustrating to have to just sit there and wait for it, when you know it's possible to just pop right into fullscreen on the same desktop with no delay.

Ok, this is weird. While trying it again to confirm behavior for this question, it now goes fullscreen on the same desktop as the browser, which is the desired behavior...

In case it goes back to the slow method, is there a Preference setting or something in about:config that controls this?

This was also happening to me and another thread this weekend, do you happen to have mixed content enabled for youtube?

See this article for more information about the new mixed content blocker: Mixed content blocking in Firefox

To temporarily allow the mixed content to be displayed:

  • Click the shield icon Mixed Content Shield in the address bar and choose Disable Protection on This Page from the dropdown menu.

To allow insecure content to be displayed in all secure pages, enter about:config in the address bar and double-click on this preference, to toggle it from true to false:

security.mixed_content.block_active_content

You can also use this add-on instead, to toggle the preference:

You may want to do this only for the current session, then reset the preference back to "true" and check back with the site to see whether it's been fixed, since this is a global setting that exposes you on all sites, not just the one you care about.

Let us know if this helps!
