Trying to sync from windows to MAC but not near my windows computer?

Hello, I had Firefox Sync set up at work on my work computer (windows). I want to set up sync at home on my MAC. I no longer work at my previous job...so, I have no access to that particular computer. I didn't realize that sync was specific to the device...I thought I could just sign on to Firefox at home and sync but nothing happens when I do. I haven't paired this MAC...don't think I was asked too and can't find directions that work. Is it a MAC to PC issue or am I missing something? Thanks so much for the help.

With the new Sync version used in current Firefox releases you enter the name and password of the Firefox account on each computer to connect to the Sync account. You can no longer pair a new device by entering a pairing key on a connected device.
