I am using Thunderbird on a macbook with gmail. It works fine and has for years. When I view mail on my iphone6 I initially see the mail but then for no apparent reason they 'disappear' from the iphone. Everything is still fine and all mail is on the macbook. I've set the iphone to use gmail but mail just disappears. thanks

What is the account type on your Macbook - POP or IMAP?

Did you tell Thunderbird to leave messages on the server? Otherwise they will be removed upon opening.

When accessing an account from multiple devices IMAP makes more sense.

Thanks for your help. I told Thunderbird (on my Mac) to leave things on the server. Can I switch to IMAP without losing anything? To do that I would guess I have to delete my account on the mac and re-add it using IMAP. Is that correct? How do I do it? Is it straight forward or is there a Trick? thanks again.

Can I switch to IMAP without losing anything?

Certainly. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Convert_a_POP_account_to_a_IMAP_account

Thanks for your help. Switching to IMAP did the trick. Thanks so Much!
