Firefox doesn't keep accounting codes for printing to XEROX printers from Yosemite. Refreshing firefox temporarily fixes but not long. How to fix permanently?

On a macbook running Yosemite and XEROX printer driver for XEROX® WorkCentre® 5845 we have created a profile that will send accounting codes to the printer. When printing from firefox v 48 the accounting codes aren't always sent to the printer. This results in wasting a lot of paper and time for our teachers. Refreshing firefox will temporarily fix the problem but we have to refresh 2 or 3 times a week to be able to print. Are there any about:config entries that can be checked / changed to prevent having to refresh firefox so often?

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Do you mean you created a Firefox profile, or a device profile, or a MacOS X profile?

Firefox extracts certain settings from printers and stores them in the prefs.js file, which appear as "user set" preferences in about:config. By saving a working prefs.js file for later comparison with a non-working prefs.js file, you might be able to spot some relevant discrepancies related to the printer.

The prefs.js file is stored in the user's current profile folder. This article has the steps to locate that. If you access this article on Windows, please use the Editing Tools in the left column to switch the article to Mac.

Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

Also, when this problem arises, did you already try resetting just the printer-specific preferences instead of doing a full Refresh? See: Fix printing problems in Firefox.

I added the escalate tag to this thread. I think we need a Mac OSX user to weigh-in here. Printing in OSX works quite a bit different than on Windows and Linux platforms.

They actually call it a Printer Preset - it is where you can set options for your printer. i.e. drawer for paper, accounting code, color, etc.

I will check out the prefs.js file and see if there might be some clues there.
