I have been on the about config page where you are supposed to search for browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled’ but it does not exist in mine to change from false to true, on my aboutconfig it says ' browser.pagethumbnails.storage_version' user set integer 3. My computer had to be cleaned up and all browsers were set back. Previously I managed to do the about config and change it to true, but as you can see it does not exist? Please help me with what I can do to get rid of the thumbnails. I only want Google.co.uk to appear on all the new tabs without all the thumbnails. I have added the add-on to get google on every page, but cannot get rid of the thumbnails. I would send you a screen shot of the about config page except that it can only be a jpg and not a word doc with the screenshot.

Thankyou

Hi donyaaaa, you will have to create the browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled does not exist by default.

  1. In the address bar, type about:config and press the Enter key.
  2. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
Click I accept the risk! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Now right-click anywhere in the Preference Name area and select New > Boolean
  4. In the New Boolean Value pop-up window type (or copy/paste from here) the browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled
  5. in the next pop-up window choose true and then OK to save it.
  6. close the about:config page.
  7. exit firefox and restart it.

thank you

I have done exactly what you said, even restarted the computer and the thumbnails are still exactly as they were?? I have even double checked that it was entered and placed as true. What do I do now??

I have correctly copied and entered into the about config have also double checked all was as you said, which it was and have even restarted the computer also but the thumbnails are still as they were previously? What can I do. Appreciate any help.

Did you remove the thumbnails folder to remove already created thumbnails?

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\thumbnails
  • browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled = true

I am not sure about what I should be doing to delete the thumbnails? Where do I look for the profile thumbnails?? in the program files under mozilla?? cor-el said

Where and how do I remove the thumbnails folder? I copied your link and did a search did not find anything.

You need to go to the folder where also the disk cache is located, see the about:cache page for the latter. Go up one level and check the thumbnails folder.

<profile> is the name of the profile folder that consists of a random name: xxxxxxxx.default

  • %LocalAppDate%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder. Location used for the main profile in "AppData\Roaming".

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files in "AppData\Local".

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

I have managed to get to the profile folder but I do not see anything on thumbnails, is it under a different name?, I got to the profiles in about:support and clicked on the profile folder: show folder. I am so stuck!!

"Show Folder" brings you to the wrong location. This is the main profile folder that stores your personal data and isn't the other location that is used for the disk cache where also the thumbnails folder is located. Clicking that button brings you to "AppData\Roaming" instead of "AppData\Local".

If you see the full path in Windows Explorer then edit this path and change 'Roaming' to 'Local'. otherwise paste %LocalAppDate%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the location field in Windows Explorer.

I copied and pasted this '%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\' from another article of mozilla and again only one folder with many numbers named default. Now in the article it said that if the only folder there says default then there is only one profile location and in this folder there is nothing named thumbnails? So what do I do now, please?

I have also clicked on the bars at the top right, clicked on ? then troubleshooting then clicked on folders and came to the same profile folder with nothing on thumbnails??

HI, again, Ok, I have just found this 'C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\c28xx8aa.default-1482859372883, have opened it and this is what this file shows: Cache2, jumplistcache, offline cache, safebrowsing, startupcache, cache clean, directorylinksjson, frequency cap. When I open them some I am not allowed to open? and others dont take me anywhere and nothing about thumbnails????
