How do I make 1 filter apply to more than 1 email account

I have 4 email accounts set up and would like to have several filters apply to each. It is easy enough to create the filters but I didn't see any way to apply a filter to all 4 accounts other than entering the rule 4 times. Hopefully I have simply overlooked some configuration option and someone can point it out. Thanks.

Filters for each mail account are kept in separate mail account folders within your profile.

One method would be to create all filters that you would want in more than one mail account and then in your profile, copy paste the 'msgFilterRules.dat' file into the other mail account folders. then open Thunderbird and add any additional filters which may be more specific for that account. OR write all filters in the one mail account Then copy paste the file between mail accounts. Then disable the ones you do not want to use in the specific mail account.

When copy pasting the msgFilterRules.dat file, make sure Thunderbird is closed first.

Make hidden files and folders visible: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders

To access Profile folder: In Thunderbird 'Help' > 'Troubleshooting Information' click on 'Show folder' button.

A window opens showing your Profile name contents.

Close thunderbird now - this is important.

For POP mail accounts click on 'Mail' folder For IMAP mail accounts click on 'ImapMail' folder select mail account.

look for msgFilterRules.dat file Right click on file and select Copy Then paste that file in the other mail account.

Start Thunderbird. Check the Mesage Filters, make sure only the ones you require to be enabled are correctly selected or you can delete then if surplus.
