Hi all,

I am trying to make Thunderbird act the same as Gmail in regards to how it displays read and unread messages in the message pane. I want unread messages to be bolded and have a light gray background, while read messages are not bolded and have an almost black background. I have attached a screenshot to show you what I'm talking about. I'm not sure if there is somewhere in the userChrome.css file that I can change to make messages appear this way, or if I need to change it somewhere else. Any help that you can give is much appreciated!

I don't know of a direct setting to do this but perhaps this would work:

  • create a tag with the desired color
  • create a filter that assigns that tag to an email when it's been read
