there were hundreds of bookmarks for duckduckgo, but have successfully deleted them. Still have hundreds of bookmarks of another site that I can't delete, one by one or wholly. http://lawfulvlegal.com/ you can scroll for 20 seconds and they are still there. Don't know how this started....have used the Microsoft malicious software removal tool but nothing came up.

I've used the above addon 3-4x & the bookmarks still return, both randomly on bookmarks drop-down menu & within the many folders I have. I have too many bookmarks to write down & reenter. There's got to be an effective permanent solution out there somewhere!

Sorry to hear that. I think that's because maybe you have had created the same bookmarks many times and synced them with firefox account.

First, disable "bookmarks sync"Goto: Options > Firefox Account then try the addon.

Try what extension? I don't understand the concept of creating the same bookmarks many times & syncing them with the Firefox account. I don't know how or why I'd do that! How do you sync bookmarks you've created in Firefox to a Firefox account?

Sorry for the confusion.

Try this addon

Hope that helps.

Another problem I forgot to mention above is that as of yesterday all these duplicates appared in my iphone 6s Safari browser as well. That has never happened before & it will take forever to delete each one. I had not done anything about deleting laptop bookmarks & don't understand how they were synced to my phone! The previous day had deleted all but favourite bookmarks from my phone as I had planned to import all of the folders from my laptop once I had the dupe problem fixed.

I installed Bookmarks Organizer & checked for duplicates; 2147 with 247 errors. Big deal...there's no menu on what to do next except go through pages & pages of bookmarks & manually delete the duplicates. I went through using the addon Bookmark Dupes 3-4x & got nowhere. I'm so done with this s..t & not getting a solution from anyone/where I look for assistance!!!!

Note that Firefox keeps some rotating backups in the bookmarkbackups folder. The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

So you can check for unusual changes in the items count.

Such issues can also be a problem with the places.sqlite database.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
in case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry
