The only reason why i don't use Firefox is because the bug of the start-page with the tab of the add-on Speed dial 2 : "about:newtab" doesnt work, why?

The add-on "Speed Dial 2" is a great Speed dial, because it works on Firefox and Chrome, and can be saved in the cloud. So you can synchronise your short-cuts between both browsers ! But bad luck :-/ on Firefox, it is not working properly, and maybe because of a bug of Mozilla ??

Here is the problem : - it is mpossible to set the start-page of Firefox with the new-tab of Speed dial... "about:newtab" doesn't work in the settings, why? - More of that, I noticed that the add-on is slow to start the first "new tab". But later, when you click "New tab", it woks perfectly !

-> In case it would work properly, it would have been the ultimate argument for me (and perhaps other people) to come back to Firefox

Hi, I don't use that New Tab, but do use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/quick-dial/ and that also has had the issue of slow startup recently, so I think it's due to something that Mozilla did in v62. For reference the discussion is here https://github.com/MatMoul/quickdial-webext/issues/108

With regard to setting Speed Dial 2 as your start page, try this:

Close all tabs except Speed Dial 2. Now open 3-bar menu > Options > Home, and set 'Homepage and new windows' to 'Custom URLs...' then click on 'Use Current Pages.' If you now close the tabs then restart Firefox, it should open with Speed Dial 2. If it still doesn't work, you will need to contact the developer for advice. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-speed-dial/

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

Thanks for your Scribe, for you suggestions! Finaly I could set Speeddial2 as my start-page. What you need to do is to keep 2 different tabs open : (1) you will use the first one to navigate in the settings of firefox, (2) the second will be the reference when you click "Use Current Page". So if Speeddial2 is open on it, when you click it will enter a long adress starting with : "moz-extension://..(...).../newtab.html". And it will work! Pierre

I simply avoid firefox problems by not using Firefox. It's super slow, pages take forever to load, and sometimes the fonts are all messed up. It even hangs when I close the browser. I retain v. 57 on Windows Vista only for emergencies, otherwise, I have found Opera superior in every way. Firefox has too many things going on, too many things for the user to tweak and "too many notes" to be of any real practicality, mostly it's inefficiency and slowness, even with a new FirePro V4800 video card.

Opera is superior in all respects to Firefox or any other browswer on Vista.
