I am unable to run a Backup, the process will not complete and sticks with the green line about a third way through even after 12 hours!
Running Thunderbird 60.9.0, on Windows 10, everything work fine except that when I close down, Thunderbird says it wants to run a Backup, I accept and Backup starts, but never finishes. The 'green progress' line stops at about one third across and just stops even after letting it run for 12 hours!

TB doesn't prompt for backups unless you have an add-on that does. Can you list your add-ons (Extensions) here?
To do a manual backup, Help/Troubleshooting Information, click Open Folder to open the profile folder in File Explorer, close TB, go up 3 levels until you're in the ...\AppData\Roaming folder, and copy the Thunderbird folder, or the Thunderbird folder added to a zip archive, to a backup location.
The extensions I have are 'gContactSync', 'ImportExportTools' and 'Lightning'. The backup is part of 'ImportExportTools', it has been working but then suddenly about a week ago it has stopped and I cannot find any way to get it working again.
To ask the obvious: does the size of the current backup exceed the space available in the backup location? Note that if you update to TB 68, there is a compatible version of ImportExportTools:

It backed up OK to a USB Fladh Drive, but will not work with a 2TB Home Cloud server with over 600 GB of spare capacity!! At least it proved that the software works - thank you for your help.
