When I open a pdf document in the Firefox pdf viewer, and I open the find bar to search for a phrase, the "next" and previous" arrows skip matches. "Next" takes you to match number 6, then match number 11, and so on. You get every fifth match. This is a real hassle with a very long document. How can I get it to work the usual way, and take you literally to the next match?

Here is the case: https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/files/FOMC20110126meeting.pdf

I was searching for "Lacker."

Seems to be working fine here.

Make sure that you haven't selected the "Match Case" feature in the Find bar (Ctrl+F).

The Find bar has find settings for "Highlight All" and "Whole Words" and "Match Case" that are hidden when you use Quick Find. Open the Find bar via Ctrl+F and check these choices. Related prefs as found on the about:config page.

  • findbar.entireword = false
  • findbar.highlightAll = false
  • accessibility.typeaheadfind.casesensitive = 0
