Firefox 85 is auto filling info into webforms - including Credit Card details. I would like to modify this. But when I select Options>Privicy & Security> and look between 'Logins & Passwords' and 'History' I find that 'Forms & Autofill' is missing. I am using Widows 10 20H2 and UK English. Can anyone suggest how to get access to Autofill?

You can set this String pref on the about:config page to see if that makes this section appear.

  • extensions.formautofill.available = "on"

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

extensions.formautofill.available is set to 'detect'. Is this significant. What does that mean and should it be 'On'?

Other settings are: extensions.formautofill.creditCards.available true extensions.formautofill.creditCards.enabled true extensions.formautofill.creditCards.hideui false

If also includes: extensions.formautofill.supportedCountries US but I am not in the USA.

Yes, you need to change extensions.formautofill.available = "detect" to extensions.formautofill.available = "on" (case sensitive, no quotes).

Yes that worked and I can now see 'Forms and Auto fill'. But when I look at 'Saved Credit Cards' or 'Saved Addresses' they are empty. Will they populate when I re-use them in the future? Its strange because Firefox is clearly saving them somewhere!

{I am amazed at how many paramenters there are. It does suggest Firefox is significantly over-engineered (compared to Chrome, Edge or Safari).}

Note that auto-fill form data also can be saved as part of 'legacy' saved form data as set via Options/Preferences (search and form history).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

Yes I have 'Use custom settings for history' set for 'Remember Form History'. Do you think this will save data in a different place than 'Forms and AutoFill' would use? In other words do you think the former is a 'legacy' system?

Yes, the former is the legacy version and stores its data in formhistory.sqlite. Forms and AutoFill stores its data in autofill-profiles.json

Thank you coe-el for your amazing expertise in this area.

I now wonder if I should have both versions switched on at the same time. - Will there be conflict between them? Or will the new override the legacy system? - Now that I understand whats going on, do you think I should switch off 'Forms and Autofill' and wait for Moxilla to roll it out to counties outside the USA?
