Hello,

I have installed the latest version of Thunderbird and set up my email account "@me.com" I can download emails and syncing works well, but I cannot send emails from Thunderbird. I have read various forums and tried numerous tips and suggestions to solve the problem but none of them work for me. Please see the attached picture of the error message I get. I have Thunderbird Version 115.2.3 (64-bit) on Windows 10 Enterprise 10.0.19045 I appreciate your help on fixing this issue since I really want to use Thunderbird, but without the ability to send email it is unfortunately not an option for me.

Many thanks in advance, René

SMTP settings:

  • SMTP Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • Port: 587
  • Connection Security: STARTTLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password (use this setting but enter app specific password)
  • Username: Type your full email address

Password: Logon to your webmail account - switch on 2FA and create an app specific password to use in Thunderbird. I believe the normal password will no allow access to smtp server.

Then update the stored password in Thunderbird.

  • Settings > Privacy & Security
  • Passwords section
  • Click on 'Saved Passwords'
  • Click on 'Show Passwords'
  • Right clickon relevant lines and select 'Edit Password'
  • Remove the normal password completely and then enter the app specific password
  • Click 'Close'

Hello and thank you for the reply. I have followed the suggestions and modified my settings accordingly, but his does not seem to solve the issue. I still get a message error and emails do not send from Thunderbird.
