Firefox, note 9, Android 10. Open YouTube website, click a video and it wants to switch to a different service ie chrome or others.

Please make an android extension to block youtube ads.

Go to Settings and change "Open links in apps" to "Never".

Won't that cause issues with apps that use the browser to login and then transfer back to the app  ?

It can't be too problematic if it is the default setting, the user can still manually "Open in app".
