Help with permanent delete of emails in GMail All Mail folder

Question about Thunderbird 115.4.1 and Gmail. In the "All Mail" folder... I delete messages - but only to see them still there the next day. I tried empty trash as well as compact folder and expunge - but I clearly am doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong and help me?! I also tried both moving to trash folder in different directory as well as "delete immediately" in Account settings.

Most users unsubscribe All Mail and delete it from the profile. Gmail's recommendation is to 'just mark as deleted' when deleting messages. See the All Mail section here:
