cannot edit bookmarks restored to Windows from Linux

On Linux, I backed up my bookmarks to a .json file. On Windows, I restored them from the .json file. I cannot edit any of the file: bookmarks, apparently because they lack a drive letter.

Potential workarounds: 1) Manually edit the .json file to add a drive letter. 2) Delete the bookmark and add a new bookmark to the desired location.

You shouldn't have to edit the JSON file, for any reason. The "drive letter" isn't important, except for "local bookmarks" - bookmarks to files stored on your PC.

The bookmarks in question are local bookmarks. I wanted to edit the bookmarks to match the new location. Some experimentation showed that I could not edit the restored bookmarks that lacked a drive letter.

You can't edit Properties for those bookmarks, to something like this?
file:///D:/Firefox/bookmarks.html

I do edits like that in the Bookmarks Sidebar. Right-click the bookmark and select Properties.

That is correct. It fails from the sidebar also.

It is usually easier to open a local file in Firefox via File > Open File and bookmark that link in the usual way: click the star on the location bar or copy and paste the URL to a bookmark.

The proposed easier way:

  1. Right-click old bookmark
  2. Copy
  3. File, Open File
  4. Paste
  5. Edit the location
  6. Open
  7. Bookmark the new location
  8. Delete old bookmark

What I tried to do:

  1. Right-click old bookmark
  2. Click Properties to edit the location
  3. Save
