When I click a link, Firefox 4 opens a new tab (which I'm fine with) but it will not actually open the link.

My previous version of Firefox worked like a charm. Now, any links I click on will open up a new tab, which is fine, but it just says "New Tab", it won't actually open the link that I had clicked on. Firefox IS my default browser. I've checked every setting I can think of to check, but can't find a solution anywhere. I have changed the "system information" below because the issue is on my other computer, which has Firefox 4.0 and Windows Vista

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

Thank you, Cor-el. I did as instructed and it seems to have eliminated the problem. I do appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post!

You're welcome.

Can you tell us which extension caused it? --- I see that you have a corrupted user agent that identifies you as Firefox 3.6.16

  • Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.16) Gecko/20110319 Firefox/3.6.16 Facicons

You need to reset the UA to the default (pref: general.useragent.override) to avoid problems with extensions or updates.
