My wife plays bridge with this program. All of a sudden, a week ago, every time I click on the Firefox icon on the desk top the Firefox page opens and then immediately the bridge program opens. In order to use Firefox I have to open a new window. I have tried rebooting.

Hi MainerBob, There may be a preference that changed where the tabs from lastime open up from the last time Firefox was open, or it may be the homepage. Most likely not the homepage because a new window does not open up the game.

The preference is in "3bar" menu > Options > General under "when Firefox starts" change that preference.

Another nice feature for this would be to add another profile Using Multiple Profiles and a profile switcher add on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../profileswitcher/

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

Still doing it and nothing appended after firefox/exe. It seems to do it with whatever program was last visited, as if it hadn't closed completely. Also, I don't understand what "3bar" is.

MainerBob sorry, this button: New Fx Menu

Please also see if changing the newtab url makes a difference.

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Type browser.newtab.url in the search box to find it on the list.
  4. Double-click on browser.newtab.url and type in about:newtab in the window that pops up.

Restart Firefox and open a new tab to make sure the change was made. If there is any issues with plugins please also see: Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems
