Options I enter aren't retained.

I've tried repeatedly to use the Options button in Firefox tools to set tab behavior and tell Firefox not to store passwords. (I had these options set in the previous version of Firefox, and they disappeared with the upgrade to the present version.) None of the options I set is retained by Firefox.

First, try changing the settings in about:preferences as well.

Please see the article How to fix preferences that won't save, you might have an external application that is preventing changes to your preferences.
